GROW GRACEFULL
Your monthly infusion of good stuff
Hello Reader,
Happy Halloween! I hope you're well and have some silly plans!
Indeed I'm fresh off the back a few days of silliness in the Peaks (some planned, some not so much...!). My technique camp there saw 30 teens descend from various parts of the country to learn how to improve their running with serious drills, hills, strength, mobility and injury prevention workshops (followed by silly team games!).
Big thanks to all that came - not least coach Shireen Higgins and husband John who brought 18 of her athletes from Windsor. The commission paid for both of them to attend, with some spare for them to use on other camps! If you're a coach that would like a done-for-you camp, check out my affiliate programme.
Next month sees me doing a few bespoke workshops for athletics clubs, the Steve Cram camp and then I'm off to South Africa to join my partner for his camp out there. I'll also be refining the new software Sheffield Hallam Uni have made for me to enhance my technique and movement analyses, and I finally have some more time to play with AI (admin agents here I come?!? π€ππ€).
I hope it's been a great month for you and yours and here's wishing you a successful one ahead. See you on the other side!
Go Gracefully,
Long-term Athlete Development Research from the Australian Institute of Sport
A very common question I get from young athletes is 'how much mileage should I be doing?'. Obviously this depends on a whole range of factors, but a key piece of advice I give to under 16s(+) is to not be afraid to do other sports. It's so important for general athletic development, but also in not burning out mentally.
In an excellent post, the AIS shares a number of powerful stats to back this up, encouraging:
"Start early but specialise when the athlete is ready"
This month on the βGrow: Stronger Academy (online S&C + mentoring)β we looked at Long-term Athlete Development, Communication and Conflict Resolution and Visualisation. The weekly sessions are now fully subscribed, but get in touch if you'd like to enquire about our lite programme.
Having shied away from the limelight for years (possibly due to unfairly being linked to doping cases - see my strong thoughts on that here), since his athlete Sabastain Sawe broke 2 hours in the marathon, the world is starting to see the real Claudio. In this episode, he shares insights into his coaching approach as well as efforts he is making with his truly world-class group (best in the world?!) to combat doping.
He also happens to be a pal and if you come to my Camp Kenya next Feb/Mar, you get to meet him and his athletes! A rare privilege.
Lack of strength and conditioning is one of the top 3 reasons people get injured (together with progressing too quickly and not recovering enough). Tick that πͺ box with my 20min, running-specific workouts. Option 2 is for dodgy knees (or if you're tired).
This month we have dumbbells and plyos (plus stretch)
I'll be mixing it with the stars again delivering injury-prevention workshops, strength and mobility testing, fitness pilates and lactacte monitoring! This is always such a fun weekend. I believe they have
I'll be doing a presentation about my progression in athletics from school girl to second in the world - and lessons learned along the way. Spoiler alert: I wasn't even the fastest in my class to begin with.
21st November: Petts Wood Technique and Nutrition Workshops (Sold out!)
'More popular than Oasis tickets' apparently! So I offered to do 2 in a day, taking 100 athletes through my technique, strength and mobility workshop, plus a performance nutrition seminar.
From my 'flagship' running technique workshops, to my range of 50+ performance/wellbeing presentations, I love working with athletes and coaches to help further their knowledge and running careers. If you're interested for your club:

about Peak Technique 2026:
This was my second camp and it wonβt definitely be my last! I learnt so much, made so many memories and had an amazing time! Becky puts so much effort and hard work into the camp and it really helped! 5 stars!

I really enjoyed the camp. I learned loads of new things about running technique, injury prevention, strength etc. The running environments was so pretty and lovely. I'll definitely come again
